Day 01: Arrival in Paro
- Morning: Arrive at Paro International Airport. You’ll likely be greeted by the majestic views of the Himalayas. After clearing customs, meet your guide who will be with you throughout your trip.
- Afternoon: Check into your hotel and relax. Later, explore Paro town and visit the local market to immerse yourself in the daily life of the Bhutanese people.
- Evening: Welcome dinner at a traditional Bhutanese restaurant. Overnight in Paro.
Day 02: Paro – Tiger’s Nest Monastery
- Morning: Early breakfast followed by a hike to Paro Taktsang, also known as Tiger’s Nest Monastery. The hike typically takes about 5-6 hours round trip. It’s a steep climb but the path is well-trodden and offers incredible views.
- Afternoon: After exploring the monastery and spending time in meditation, descend to the base.
- Evening: Free evening for rest after the hike. Overnight in Paro.
Day 03: Paro to Thimphu
- Morning: Drive to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan (about 1.5 hours). Visit Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress of the country.
- Afternoon: Explore Thimphu’s cultural sites including the Buddha Dordenma Statue and the Memorial Chorten. Engage in prayer and observe local religious practices.
- Evening: Attend a prayer ceremony at a local monastery. Overnight in Thimphu.
Day 04: Thimphu to Punakha
- Morning: Journey to Punakha via the Dochula Pass, where on a clear day, panoramic views of the Himalayan range can be enjoyed. Stop at the 108 chortens and meditate.
- Afternoon: Visit Punakha Dzong, the second oldest and second largest dzong in Bhutan and a significant religious and historical site. Then, visit the Chimi Lhakhang, known as the Fertility Temple.
- Evening: Participate in evening prayers with local monks. Overnight in Punakha.
Day 05: Exploring Punakha
- Morning: Start the day with meditation by the Mo Chhu River, followed by a visit to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a stunning example of Bhutanese architecture and spiritual art.
- Afternoon: Explore local villages and interact with villagers to understand their way of life and spiritual practices.
- Evening: Free time for personal reflection and meditation. Overnight in Punakha.
Day 06: Punakha to Phobjikha Valley
- Morning: Drive to the serene Phobjikha Valley, a glacial valley on the western slopes of the Black Mountains.
- Afternoon: Visit Gangtey Monastery and participate in the evening prayer session. The valley is also known for its scenic hikes and the endangered, black-necked cranes.
- Evening: Meditation and contemplative walks around the valley. Overnight in Phobjikha Valley.
Day 07: Phobjikha Valley to Paro
- Morning: Enjoy a morning walk in the valley and participate in a community-led environmental conservation activity.
- Afternoon: Return to Paro. En route, visit local spiritual sites and small monasteries.
- Evening: Farewell dinner featuring traditional Bhutanese cuisine and cultural performance. Overnight in Paro.
Day 08: Departure from Paro
- Morning: Depending on your flight time, engage in one last prayer or meditation session.
- Afternoon: Transfer to Paro International Airport for your departure, carrying with you a spirit renewed by the profound experiences of Bhutan.
