Starting from Drukgyel Dzong in Paro Valley, the trail leads into the stunning Jigme Dorji Wangchuk National Park. Spanning seven to eight days, the trek includes a rest day for acclimatization at Jangothang (13,448 ft/4100 m), where you’ll witness spectacular views of Jomolhari and Jichu Drakey. Half-day hikes from base camp offer panoramic vistas of glacial lakes and neighboring mountain peaks, making this trek a once-in-a-lifetime Himalayan experience.

Fitness Requirements

The Jomolhari trek Bhutan is moderately strenuous and requires good physical fitness. Trails pass through demanding terrain at high altitudes, so trekkers are advised to prepare physically well in advance.

Jomolhari Trek Bhutan – 10-Day Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Paro (2250m)
Arrive in Paro, Bhutan’s cultural hub known for monasteries, dzongs, and scenic landscapes. Spend the day acclimatizing and relaxing in your hotel.

Day 02: Tiger’s Nest Hike (3140m)
Hike to the world-famous Paro Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest Monastery), perched dramatically on a cliff. Explore ancient temples that reflect Bhutan’s spiritual heritage.

Day 03: Drukgyel to Sharna Zampa (2850m)
The Jomolhari trek Bhutan begins. Walk through pine forests and along the Paro River to your campsite at Sharna Zampa.

Day 04: Sharna Zampa to Thangthanka (3610m)
Continue trekking through protected forests rich in flora and fauna. If skies are clear, enjoy your first breathtaking views of Mt. Jomolhari.

Day 05: Thangthanka to Jangothang (4100m)
Pass yak herders’ camps and witness their unique lifestyle. Camp at Jangothang, one of the most scenic spots in Bhutan, with panoramic Jomolhari views.

Day 06: Rest Day at Jangothang
Spend the day acclimatizing with optional short hikes to nearby peaks and glacial lakes. Spot wildlife such as blue sheep in their natural habitat.

Day 07: Jangothang to Soi Yaktsa (3900m)
Trek past Tshophu Lake and cross Bhonte La Pass (4900m), rewarded with stunning mountain panoramas. Overnight in Soi Yaktsa valley.

Day 08: Soi Yaktsa to Thombushong (3600m)
Journey through vast yak pastures and meadows, learning about the nomadic culture of Bhutan. Camp in a tranquil mountain setting.

Day 09: Thombushong to Paro (2250m)
Cross the final pass of the trek with sweeping Himalayan views before descending to Paro. Celebrate the successful completion of your Jomolhari adventure.

Day 10: Departure from Paro
Enjoy a farewell breakfast in Paro before your onward journey, carrying memories of the Himalayas and Bhutan’s rich culture.
